The Christmas Attic’s Holiday Advent Calendar Closing Celebration & Silent Auction Event

Date: Saturday, January 7, 2012

Time: 12-2PM

Location: The Christmas Attic 125 S. Union Street - Old Town Alexandria, VA

The Christmas Attic and the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic® invite the local community and media to the closing celebration of the Advent Art Exhibition/Project on Saturday, January 7th, 2012 from 12-2PM. The Christmas Attic partnered with area schools, churches, and community groups to produce 24 illuminating canvases of art that were revealed daily from December 1-24 on the store’s windows and building. The advent calendar project was a community collaboration celebrating the store’s 40th Anniversary. At the closing celebration, the canvases of advent art will be available via a silent auction. Proceeds from the auction will go to the Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic®. The Make-A-Wish Foundation of the Mid-Atlantic® grants the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions to enrich the human experience with hope, strength and joy. Light refreshments, family friendly activities, advent artists and representatives from the Make-A-Wish Foundation will be available. All are welcome. The January 7th auction date was selected as it coincides with the end of the traditional Christmas calendar – when the three kings arrive to see Baby Jesus (the Day of Epiphany). Some area schools and organizations that participated in making advent creations includes: Old Presbyterian Meeting House Preschool, Meeting House Youth Group, Good Shepherd Catholic Church Youth Group, St. Anthony’s Day School, Christ United Methodist Church Youth Group, Greentree Preschool, St. Raymond’s Catholic Church Youth Group, and Aquia Episcopal Church.
